Museo delle Scienze

The City of the Future

Starting at the central Piazza Duomo, walk round the Torre Civica and Palazzo Pretorio and take via Calepina, on the left, to Palazzo Sardagna, today site of the University of Trento and historical site of the Tridentino Natural Science Museum from 1975 to 2013, the year of the inauguration of the new headquarters of the MUSE Science Museum in the Le Albere district, both designed by Renzo Piano. This prestigious network of scientific institutions and centres for spreading scientific culture combines knowledge and research with a state-of-the-art hands-on interaction. Continuing on Via Calepina and then turning right on Via Mantova you go around the Palazzo delle Poste, an example of futurist architecture, which has undergone numerous architectural transformations from the Renaissance to today. Continuing on Via Santissima Trinità you will find it on the left  Palazzo Roccabruna, another historic mansion transformed into the “House of Trentino Products”, where wine tastings are offered and typical products are enhanced.

Returning to via Mazzini, with its colorful pavement and elegant shop windows, you reach the vast Piazza Fiera with the characteristic tower and the imposing walls of the thirteenth-century city. Turning left onto Via Dietro le Mura A you reach the end of Piazza Fiera: the Archbishop's Palace is located on the opposite side of the Torrione, where Via S. Croce begins. Here fairs and events are held the year round, culminating in December with the Christmas Market. Continuing along Via S. Croce, you reach the remains of a large gateway – called the “3 portoni” (3 gates) – which opens on Via Madruzzo, a long avenue laid out in the 16th century and leading to the Palazzo delle Albere. Along Via Madruzzo you reach the marvellous Palazzo delle Albere, which hosts exhibitions of the Mart - Museum of modern and contemporary art of Trento and Rovereto and of the MUSE - Science Museum. This is where the new neighborhood designed by Renzo Piano was built for a new high-quality urban area close to the Adige according to modern eco-sustainability criteria. The new citadel houses the new MUSE - Science Museum and is located next to the cycle path, with a vast park, intertwining water, greenery and mountains, thus realizing the dream of an Alpine city projected towards the future.
