Shrine of Our Lady of Piné

Opening times:
• from January 2021 to December 2025, from Monday to Sunday 8am-6pm

Shrine symbolising Marian veneration. The Montagnaga complex celebrates the mystique of the five apparitions mentioned by the popular and religious tradition of the place

Also known as the Sanctuary of the Apparition or the Church of Sant'Anna, this complex located in Montagnaga, a fraction of the municipality of Baselga di Piné, includes several buildings and sacred places. Here, according to tradition, the Virgin appeared five times between 1729 and 1730 to a shepherd girl named Domenica Targa. The actual sanctuary, a late Baroque building, houses the altarpiece of S. Anna, by Francesco Unterpergher di Cavalese, and the canvas depicting the Madonna by Caravaggio, created in the year of the first appearance by the Trentino painter Elena Zambaiti and numerous ex voto paintings of historical and artistic interest, witnesses of the deep local devotion. Also worth seeing, not far from the Sanctuary, is the Monument to the Redeemer, a 20th-century work in neo-Renaissance style containing the Holy Staircase and the wooden Crucifixion group.

STRENGTH

The mystical and evocative character of the sanctuary. The view of the Valsugana can be enjoyed from the hill where the Monument to the Redeemer is located.
